Girls lacrosse | Mayo doubles up SLP


Seven players scored at least one goal each as Rochester Mayo earned a 14-7 girls lacrosse victory against Spring Lake Park on the Rochester Community and Technical College campus Saturday morning.

Mayo led 8-5 at halftime and had two players score three goals each. Ella Cameron had three goals and Samantha Carlson had three goals and an assist.

"In spite of the cold, wind and rain, we were able to come away with a victory," Spartans coach Gary Tschann said. "We had balanced scoring and were able to cut down on our turnovers."

Tschann said the Spartans had a very good defensive effort, led by Maddy Friedman, Claire Tompkins and Maddie Allman. Mayo allowed just two goals in the second half and goalie Rebecca Graham made 19 saves.

Ashley Weber, Jamie Poethke and Lauren Ulsh also had two goals each for Mayo.

The Spartans are back in action at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday against Rochester Century at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium.

Rockets edged by WBL

Two players scored two goals each for Rochester John Marshall/Lourdes, but it dropped a girls lacrosse game to visiting White Bear Lake, 13-11, at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Goalie Mia Bruesewitz also kept the Rockets in the game, making 16 saves.

"Our attack took control of the game from the first draw and Shelby Greer, Veronica Branson, and Allison Galkowski played a great defensive game," JM/L coach Kerry McAllister said. "Once again it came down to the final minutes. At this point we have to regroup and turn our attention back to fundamentals with our primary focus of taking care of the ball till the end of the game."

Ciera Hardyman and Emma Krauss scored two goals each for JM.

The Rockets play host to Hastings at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
