Girls lacrosse | Section 1 playoffs: Northfield 13, Mayo 10

NORTHFIELD — An up-and-down season came to an end for the Rochester Mayo girls lacrosse team on Tuesday with a 13-10 loss to No. 4 seed Northfield in the quarterfinal round of the Section 1 playoffs.

No. 5 seed Mayo trailed 5-3 at halftime and couldn't get over the hump in the second half, but Mayo coach Nikki Anglin said she is proud of her team, which finished the year with a record of 7-7.

"We are disappointed with this loss but certainly not disappointed with the season we have had," she said. "Our seniors led us in one of our most successful runs as a team. We are going to miss their leadership and determination."

Paige Knudsen had three goals to lead the Mayo attack, and Selina Leang, Ashley Hammes and Makayla Pahl had two goals apiece. Goalie Madisen Woodcock made seven saves for the Spartans.

Northfield (9-5) is on a five-game winning streak.
