Girls soccer | Kasson-Mantorville 2, Lourdes 1

With the Hiawatha Valley League championship on the line, Kasson-Mantorville and Lourdes played an intense, hard-fought game on Tuesday, and in the end it was the KoMets who emerged with a 2-1 win.

Lourdes head coach Sarah Groven said both teams played great soccer, but in the second half, the Eagles' lost focus for a brief time. "We lost some of our intensity in the second half and caught ourselves looking around a bit," she said. "We are a very young team and we are expecting quite a bit from our freshmen and sophomores, and they have delivered."

That was certainly the case with the Eagles' only goal, as freshman Britt Gruszynski got the assist and freshman Jordyn Berg found the net.

"We were able to beat K-M a few weeks ago, but we knew this game was going to be a physical battle, and it was a great way to close out our conference schedule," Groven said. "These battles between K-M and Lourdes get better and better each year, and we love the challenge."

The Eagles host Totino-Grace on Saturday to close out the regular season, while Kasson-Mantorville (10-4-1 overall) hosts Cannon Falls.
