Girls Soccer | La Crescent strikes fast, blanks Lourdes

LA CRESCENT — La Crescent popped in two quick goals in the opening 15 minutes and held the momentum for a 2-0 win over Rochester Lourdes in a Hiawatha Valley League girls soccer game Thursday.

La Crescent junior Emily Yeiter scored both goals for the Lancers as both teams closed the regular season.

"Our defense was tough tonight," Lourdes coach Sarah Groven said. "If we would have set foot on the field ready to go, it could've been a better outcome."

La Crescent finished with a 5-1-0 record in the HVL and earned a share of the conference title with Kasson-Mantorville, which lost to Byron 2-1.

La Crescent and takes a 14-1 record into the playoffs and has won 11 straight since a 3-1 loss to K-M. Lourdes finished 4-2-0 in the conference and is 6-5-2 overall, with a non-conference game remaining against Totino-Grace on Saturday.

"This has been a great week for us; we have put some great things together this week," Lourdes coach Sarah Groven said. "We are a young team and we are learning, but most importantly, we are putting it all together.

"We are ready to see how much we improved as we head into playoffs."
