Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa dealt Lourdes a surprising loss in the quarterfinals of the Section 1A girls soccer tournament on Thursday, winning 2-1.
PI/ZM got a goal in each half from Keana Rosaaen and Liza Shelquist, respectively. Goalie Summer Cavallaro also had five saves for the winners.
PI/ZM was the No. 6 seed, Lourdes the No. 3.
"It's tough to lose, but this team had a great season," Lourdes coach Sarah Groven said. "They improved each and every game. The best part of coaching is watching the girls come together as a team and they certainly did that this year.
Lourdes scored the first goal of the night, before PI/ZM answered shortly after.

"We made some mistakes here and there that we couldn't quite recover from in the second half," Groven said. "But the girls sure played hard the entire game. PI/ZM played well too and they were able to score in the second half and that was the difference. It was an intense game played well both teams."
Lourdes finished 7-6-3. PI/ZM (10-6-1) takes on No. 2 seed and host team Kasson-Mantorville in the Section 1A semifinals at 7 p.m. Saturday. Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa 2, Lourdes 1
