Girls tennis: Lourdes rolls to state semifinals

MINNEAPOLIS — Lourdes did the expected Tuesday, romping to a 6-1 win over No. 6-ranked Minnewaska Area in the first round of the state Class A girls tennis tournament at Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center.

MINNEAPOLIS — Lourdes did the expected Tuesday, romping to a 6-1 win over No. 6-ranked Minnewaska Area in the first round of the state Class A girls tennis tournament at Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center.

The Eagles are ranked third and 15-1 overall, their only loss to Class AA power Mayo.

Next up for Lourdes is an 8 a.m. semifinal dual Wednesday against unranked Virginia. Virginia beat Roseau 5-2 Tuesday.

All six of Lourdes' wins came in straight sets. The Eagles' only loss was in three sets.

If Lourdes were to get past Virginia, it would likely play Blake in the 4 p.m. finals. Blake is the defending state champion and No. 1 ranked in state Class A.
