MEMPHIS — Four Gophers players scored in double figures as the University of Minnesota women's basketball team defeated Memphis 68-62 Sunday.
Shae Kelly led the Gophers (3-0) with 22 points and eight rebounds. Mikayla Bailey added 15 points and Rachel Banham 14, and Amanda Zahui B. had 12, seven rebounds and five blocked shots.
Minnesota trailed 15-5 in the opening minutes but went on an 8-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from Bailey. Kayla Hirt gave the Gophers their first lead at 24-23 with 3:07 remaining in the first half.
Memphis (2-2) led 31-29 at halftime. Banham played only three minutes in the half because of foul trouble.
Minnesota shot 52 percent from the floor in the second half. Banham helped spark a 21-7 run as the Gophers took a 50-41 lead with 11:07 remaining.
