The sweltering late summer heat is creating a problem for the start of fall high school sports. Several area events have either been either canceled or postponed.
Tonight's crosstown rivalry football game between Rochester John Marshall and Century has been moved back. The game was to start at 7 p.m., but it's now scheduled for an 8 p.m. kickoff. The game is on the turf at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium.
The 39th annual Stewartville Invitational cross country meet scheduled for today also has been postponed. That massive running event will now be held Monday, Sept. 3. The girls varsity race is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m., while the boys race will start at 5:15 p.m.
The forecast called for highs of 100 on Thursday and 87 on Friday in Rochester.
