STEWARTVILLE — Lake City jumped out to a 14-0 lead but Stewartville stayed calm, scored three touchdowns in the second quarter and went on to win 31-14.
Mitch Kuchinka run it in from the 4-yard line and Ben Schramski passed 17 yards to Jake Griebenow to get Lake City a 14-0 lead that held up into the second quarter.
But the host team rallied on three touchdown passes by Shane Mlenar, 20 yards to Peter Elton, 42 to Will Gisler and 18 to Elton. In the third quarter, insurance points were scored on Rodney Smith's 7-yard run and Matthew Terhaar's 33-yard field goal.
Mlenar and Schramski had almost identical passing yardage totals as the teams combined for 531 yards through the air. Mlenar completed 18 of 33 for 263 yards with three TDs and one interception. Schramski connected on 17 of 29 for 268 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Smith carried 29 times for 160 yards. Gisler caught six passes for 12 yards, Elton four for 53, Tyler Schmitz four for 52 and Richard Skic three for 33.
