The Mayo Spartans volleyball squad continued to roll on Thursday, knocking off Faribault in straight sets in their Big 9 Conference opener.
Head coach Deb Frederick said they expected a tough test. "We knew the Falcons were going to come out with great energy," she said. "Their team plays great defense in the back and at the net."
The Spartans, however, were more than up to the task. Kate Holtan had 10 kills, 6 digs and 4 aces, and Anna Winter contributed 10 kills and 2 blocks. Siennah Stamness had four aces, and Lexie Lang had 32 assists.
"We passed well in serve receive, so the offense could run smoothly," Frederick said "We missed six serves in the last set and got behind, but we stayed calm and slowly got the lead."
The Spartans are now 4-0 overall, and they participate in the Shakopee Invitational on Saturday.
