STRONG SECOND HALF SPARKS LOURDES

ZUMBROTA -- Lourdes used a strong second half to slip past Zumbrota-Mazeppa 69-64 in Hiawatha Valley League boys basketball on Tuesday.

The visiting Eagles trailed 33-31 at the half before pulling out the win. Free throws were a key for Lourdes as it was 16-for-21 at the line. Z-M made 8 of 11 free throws.

Peyton Dunham scored 23 points to pace Lourdes while Trevor Greguson made five 3-pointers and had 15 points while Colin Meade added 11 points.

Zach Hutton made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 27 points for Z-M while Tanner Gates scored 13 points and Anthony Cylkowki chipped in with 10.

The win moves Lourdes to 8-5 overall, 4-2 in the HVL. Z-M, which has lost six straight, drops to 5-8, 2-4 in the HVL.

GABE MADSEN SCOES 45 IN MAYO WIN

ALBERT LEA -- Gabe Madsen scored 45 points and pulled down 18 rebounds as Mayo snapped a two-game losing streak by beating Albert Lea 86-71 in Big Nine Conference boys basketball on Tuesday.

Mason Madsen had 16 points and five rebounds for the Spartans while Andre Crockett had 10 points.

"It was a hard-fought road win for us tonight," Mayo coach Luke Madsen said. "Albert Lea was undermanned tonight, but really competed hard."

Mayo held a slim 38-36 lead at the half before pulling away over the final 18 minutes. The Spartans made 17 3-pointers in the game, including nine by Gabe Madsen.

The Spartans improve to 8-3, 7-2 in the Big Nine. Albert Lea drops to 4-7, 3-6 in the Big Nine.

"Any conference road win is valuable," Luke Madsen said. "We are looking forward to continuing to get better."
