What happened: Northfield took the opening kickoff and marched 67 yards for a touchdown — and then Mayo totally dominated. The Spartans piled up 503 yards of total offense while holding the Raiders to 299. Mayo also forced three turnovers, and one of them was a fumble that Mason Greseth returned 82 yards for a touchdown. Mayo QB Cade Sheehan completed 11 of 16 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns.

Records: Mayo 1-0, Northfield 0-1.

What it means: Mayo gets revenge for a 28-21 loss last year to Northfield and proves that its team speed will test future foes.

Game notes: Mayo wide receiver Ethan Loehrer had himself a night. He had touchdown catches of seven yards and 18 yards and also had an interception. Finally, serving as the holding for extra points, he threw a 2-point conversion pass after a mishandled snap.

Mayo linemen: After Northfield's first drive, the Spartans got very stingy up front and picked up four sacks. Mayo's offensive line kept quarterback Cade Sheehan upright all night, as he wasn't sacked once.
