KOMETS JUST MISS AGAINST WEST

MANKATO -- Kasson-Mantorville has been one of the surprise teams in southeastern Minnesota this football season, contending beautifully as its playing for the first time against Class AAAAA schools.

The 4-3 KoMets almost pulled off their biggest surprise yet, giving Mankato West all it wanted before succumbing 37-27 in the Big Southeast District game at West. The Scarlets are 5-2 and ranked 10th in the state.

K-M led at halftime 14-13.

But West took off after that, scoring a touchdown in the third quarter and then two more in the fourth to pull away.

K-M finished with 117 yards rushing and 141 passing. West put on a show with its running game, with 305 ground yards. Owen Johnson had 192 yards rushing.

K-M receiver Easton Knoll had 114 yards receiving. Quarterback Peyton Wilke had 141 yards passing on 4-for-9 accuracy with two touchdowns.

RED WING FALLS TO MICHIGAN TEAM 

 

KINGSFORD, Mich. -- Red Wing came up empty after a long road trip Friday, falling to Kingsford (Mich.) 41-6. The Wingers traveled close to 600 miles round-trip to play the game. 

 

The Wingers outgained Kingsford 247-198, but turned the ball over four times in the loss.  

 

Caleb Hove scored Red Wing’s lone touchdown on a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter.  Hove ran for 39 yards on 14 carries. Wyatt Gonsir had two catches for 24 yards and Jack Carlson caught three passes for 28 yards. 

 

Red Wing closes its regular season on Wednesday at home against Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

NORTHFIELD HANDS AUSTIN ANOTHER LOSS

AUSTIN -- Austin dropped its fifth straight game on Friday, losing this time to previously winless Northfield, 24-7.

Austin’s only score came on a blocked punt that Rigo Prado returned 28 yards for a TD.

Teren Olvera had 93 yards rushing for the Packers, who are now 2-5 overall. Teyghan Hovland was 2-for-5 passing for 23 yards.

Northfield had 237 yards offense, 133 rushing and 104 passing.
