BECKER – Madison Scheevel hopes her sixth and final Class A state golf meet is one to remember. The Fillmore Central senior and Section 1A medalist put herself in great position to have a memorable finish.

Scheevel shot a 10-over par 82 on Tuesday in the opening round of the state meet, leaving her in second place with one round to go. She is three shots back of leader Rachel Halvorson from Lac Qui Parle Valley. Caledonia’s Jenna Wiebke is the only other Section 1 golfer in the top 20; she was in 19th with a score of 92.

Fillmore Central was in seventh place in the team standings after Day 1. The Falcons, appearing in their sixth consecutive state meet, finished with a team score of 410.

BOLD leads the meet with a team score of 345.


Blooming Prairie’s Kollyn Alwes is the top golfer from the area after Day 1 of the state boys meet. Alwes shot an 11-over par 83, which put him in 21st place.

Section 1A medalist Max Schmitz of Southland was in 28th place after the opening round. Schmitz shot an 85.

Springfield led the team race with a total of 323.

Section 1A champion Faribault Bethlehem Academy was in seventh place, at 372. FBA is led by senior Khrystjan Peterson, who was tied for sixth.
