Last year: Fillmore Central put together two tremendous rounds, but the Falcons were edged by Lac qui Parle Valley, by one stroke, for the state title. The Falcons finished with a two-round total of 715. Lac qui Parle Valley’s Rachel Halvorson was the state medalist with a two-day score of 155. Fillmore Central’s Grace Miller finished third (157) and teammate Madison Scheevel placed sixth (162).

Qualified teams: Fillmore Central, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, Murray County Central, BOLD, Lac qui Parle Valley, Park Christian, North Woods, Badger/Greenbush-Middle River.

Noteworthy: Fillmore Central is at state as a team for a sixth consecutive season. The Falcons have never finished lower than third place at state and won the state championship in 2016. … Fillmore Central’s Scheevel was the Section 1 medalist. She placed sixth at the state meet last season. This will be her sixth trip to state. … Caledonia’s Wiebke and Hawkins both qualified for state last spring. Wiebke tied for 20th, while Hawkins tied for 41st. … Six eighth-graders and one seventh-grader have qualified for state. Three of the eighth-graders are from Section 1 – Hayfield’s Holtan, and Fillmore Central’s Morem and Hershberger.

Noteworthy: Southland’s Schmitz was the Section 1A medalist. He’ll play at state for the first time this week. … Senior Khrystjan Peterson of Faribault B.A. was the runner-up at state last year, finishing one shot back of Sleepy Eye United’s Ben Laffen. Peterson and the Cardinals qualified as a team this year. … Hayfield’s Bronson is the only Section 1 golfer who qualified for state last year and again this year. Bronston tied for 59th last spring.
