Panthers top Winona in overtime

WINONA — Luke Dallman scored the winning goal in overtime as the Century boys soccer team topped Winona 2-1.

Winona struck first, getting a first-half goal from Coltan Rasmussen. Century got the equalizer in the final minutes of regulation when Rivaldo Pena was taken down in the box in front of the Winona keeper, and Max Sergent converted the resulting penalty kick.

"Charlie Odell had another very good game in goal," said Century head coach Hal Hougotn. "Markus Melsness also played well on the defensive end, and Josh Christensen played a very solid game doing a lot of the unnoticed work in the midfield."

The Panthers (3-2) host Owatonna on Thursday.

Spartans blank Rockets

The Mayo boys soccer team tallied two second-half goals to top crosstown rival and host John Marshall 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Spartans first score came from a free kick about 20 minutes into the second half. Senior captain Kellen Claton shot the ball into the far post end of the Rockets goal, and after the Rockets goalie stopped it, junior Kyle Doppler buried the rebound.

About 10 minutes later, wing midfielder senior Daliso Chitulangoma received a pass on the right flank from junior striker Miguel Zuniga, dribbled past two Rockets defenders and laid the ball back to junior Kyle Doppler. He flicked it into the far post area for junior Gio Castillo to slide it into Rockets’ net.

The Spartans are now 3-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the Big 9. They travel to Mankato West on Thursday.
