MANKATO -- Max Comfere scored two goals in the first half as the Century boys soccer team went on the road against Mankato West and brought back a 3-0 win.

Max Sargent and Rivaldo Pena had the assists on Comfere's goals.

Markus Melsness had an outstanding game in the midfield, as did defenders Riley Leif and Noah Gjervik," said Century coach Hal Houghton. "Luke Dallman and Jacob Watson also helped keep up pressure with good movement into the Mankato defensive end.

Nour Mohammed had the only second-half goal on what Houghton described as "a blistering shot from the 18."

Charlie Odell made three saves, including one against a breakaway, to earn the shutout.

The Panthers (4-2-1) host Northfield on Thursday.

FIRST GOALS HELP LOURDES ROLL

Senior defender Isaac Hensrud, sophomore Noah Gordon and freshman McKaid Schotzko scored their first varsity goals in Lourdes' 5-0 victory over Lake City in Hiawatha Valley League boys soccer on Tuesday.

Daniel Brown scored a pair of goals for Lourdes. Trent Neff collected a pair of assists for the Eagles, who were playing their third game in four days. They had gone 0-1-1 in the first two games.

"It was a fun night to see the first goals and also rest the starters who have logged lots of minutes in the previous two games," Loiurdes coach Tom Kane said. "Lake City fought hard all night and their effort never wavered through the 80 minutes. They have for sure improved this year."

Jaxon Hopkins made three saves to record his fifth shutout on the season for Lourdes.

The Eagles are now 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in HVL play. They host Stewartville at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rochester Regional Stadium.

BYRON SHUTS OUT SCHAEFFER

BYRON -- Sam Pompeii scored a pair of goals as Byron blanked Schaeffer Academy 3-0 in non-conference boys soccer on Tuesday.

The Bears scored off of their goals in the first half to improve to 5-3. Pompeii scored Byron's final two goals in a four-minute span. His second goal was a header off a long throw by fullback Lukas Thompson.

Caleb Koza only needed to make one save to record the shutout.

SPARTANS AND PACKERS FIGHT TO A DRAW

In a back-and-forth battle between two of the top boys soccer teams in the Big Nine Conference, Austin and Mayo settled for a 2-2 tie after two scoreless overtime sessions on Tuesday.

The Packers struck first, but the Spartans responded with two first-half goals of their own. 

"Junior Daliso Chitulangoma received a through ball behind the Packers defense, and beat the Packers goalkeeper in a one-on-one confrontation," said Mayo head coach Charles Abboud.  "The second goal came from a cross from the right side by junior Miguel Zuniga which was met with a one-touch volley from senior captain Jonathan Wright and into the Packers net."

The Packers got the equalizer midway through the second half off of a free kick.

Mayo is now 4-3-1 overall, 2-1-1 Big Nine, and are at Faribault on Thursday.
