SOFTBALL

Final score: Lourdes 2, Pipestone 1 on Thursday at Caswell Park in North Mankato in the Class AA state semifinals.

What happened: Lourdes won for the second time of the day to advance to the Class AA state championship game. Lourdes scored single runs in the third and sixth innings and then allowed one run in the bottom of the seventh.

What it means: Lourdes, the No. 2 seed, will play in the state championship at 2 p.m. Friday against No. 1 seed Norwood-Young America.

Records: Lourdes improves to 24-3; Pipestone drops to 25-3.

THURSDAY’S STARS:

* Senior pitcher Anna Taylor limited Pipestone to four hits and allowed just an unearned run in the seventh inning.

* Senior Linda O'Connell went 1-for-1 with two walks. She walked and scored the game's first run in the third inning.

* Freshman Elizabeth Pike went 2-for-3 and had a two-out RBI double to plate Lourdes' second run in the sixth inning.
 
* Katie Virgin plated Lourdes' first run with a two-out single in the third.
