Lourdes vs. Norwood-Young America Class AA Championship

Lourdes freshman Elizabeth Pike hits a double during the State Class AA  championship game against Norwood-Young America on Friday at Caswell Park in North Mankato. Lourdes won 10-1 to win the state championship.

What happened: Lourdes won a state championship in its first ever state appearance in softball. The Eagles scored seven runs in the third inning to roll past top-seeded Norwood-Young America.

What it means: Lourdes, the No. 2 seed, caps its dream season with a  25-3 record.


* Senior pitcher Anna Taylor pitched a five-hitter and held the hard-hitting Raiders to a single run. She struck out nine and did not issue a walk.

* Senior Katie Virgin went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

* Freshman Elizabeth Pike went 3-for-3 and had a two-run double during Lourdes' seven-run third inning.
* Senior Margaret Rogers went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
* Karin Hayford hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for the Eagles.
* Players named to the All-Tournament team from Lourdes included Taylor, Pike, senior Linda O'Connell and junior Alyssa Ustby.
