STEWARTVILLE -- It was a fitting end to Tuesday night’s showdown between volleyball powers Stewartville and Kasson-Mantorville.
The contest became a final with none other than Kaitlyn Prondzinski putting her final stamp on things and registering a career milestone en route.
Prondzinski, a senior outside hitter who is bound for Division I Illinois State next year on a volleyball scholarship, had a huge day in guiding No. 1-ranked Stewartville to a sweep of No. 3 Kasson-Mantorville.
Her final of 16 kills put a close on the match, with the Tigers coming away a 25-14, 25-15, 25-17 winner in front of a packed house at Stewartville High School.
Kill No. 16 was also just enough to put Prondzinski in the 1,000-career kill club at Stewartville. She needed 16 Tuesday night to get there.
“Kaitlyn was on fire,” Stewartville longtime coach John Dzubay said. “And she only had two hitting errors all match.”
The Tigers were also on fire collectively. They combined for just three hitting errors as a team. Dzubay called it the Tigers’ best performance of the year.
“This was our best match so far,” he said. “We were really good against Medford. But overall, this was our best. That’s why the scores were the way they were tonight."
While hard-hitting 5-feet-11 Prondzinski had 16 kills, middle hitter and fellow star Erin Lamb had nine kills. Jaidyn Brower had 32 assists, 11 digs and 2 blocks.
Maddie Converse paced K-M with 21 assists.
Stewartville is 8-0 in the HVL, 15-1 overall. K-M is 7-1, 20-3.
