Inspired Century sweeps Farmington

Rochester Century picked up an impressive win Thursday, pushing to a 3-0 win over Farmington in non-conference volleyball.

It was the Panthers' first home match of the season and moved them to 1-1 overall. Century won 25-23, 25-13, 25-20.

"For our first home game, this was an incredibly fun night," Century coach Nichelle Guillaume said. "After taking a beating from Kasson on Tuesday, I was really proud of the team that stepped out on our court tonight and came out with intensity, excitement and determination. Our passing and serve receive was much better tonight, which allowed us to get some great swings."

Ashlyn Meincke pacd Century with 10 kills and five aces. Megan Lund had 15 assists, and Ella Wieneke had six kills and two blocks.

Guillaume liked what she saw from her team.

"My favorite moment of the night wasn't when we were up 22-10 in the second set, but it was watching how much fun the girls were having," she said. "The passion and love that these girls have for the sport shined through all night. Tonight we grew and played as a team, which helped build confidence in ourselves."

Stewartville thumps Spartans

The Mayo volleyball squad faced their first major test of the season on Thursday when Stewartville came to Rochester, and the Spartans weren't up to the test, falling in straight sets to the Tigers.

"This is a match I would like a redo on," said Mayo head coach Deb Frederick. "We can defend and pass better, but with the strength and consistency of Stewartville's serves and offense, we couldn’t get out of the holes we kept digging for ourselves."

Stewartville's Kaitylyn Prondzinski was a force at the net, piling up 15 kills, and Erin Lamb had nine kills, two blocks and two aces.

Anna Miller led Mayo with six kills.

The Spartans are 1-1.
