SPARTANS STRUGGLE BUT TOP CENTURY
The Mayo volleyball squad didn't play its best match of the season on Tuesday at Century, but the Spartans did enough to claim a 3-1 victory.
Jaydn Koestering led Mayo with 10 kills.
Mayo head coach Deb Frederick wasn't thrilled with her team's performance.
"A win in the books, but not an efficient level of play for us," she said. "We were flat, and Century had good energy and took us out in many moments that resulted in our errors. We battled and ended up on the winning end."
Anna Miller had another solid night in the middle for Mayo, collecting nine kills and 5 1/2 blocks. Kelly Klees had a great all-around game with six kills, 30 assists, 13 digs, two blocks and three aces.
Century coach Nichelle Guillaume said her team had a rough night as well. "We struggled to put balls down," she said. "Mayo passed very well and we couldn’t execute. The set we won, we changed up our lineup and were able to keep the energy, which helped us out."
Century (7-9 overall, 3-6 Big Nine) hosts JM on Thursday. Mayo (11-5 overall, 7-2 Big Nine) hosts Mankato East on Thursday.
