Honkers can't derail charging Beetles

On the bright side the Rochester Honkers held the Alexandria Beetles to fewer runs than they have been prone to scoring during this Northwoods League college baseball season.

But that was about the extent of the good news for the Honkers Thursday night at Mayo Field, where a crowd of 900 watched the Beetles move closer to the North Division second half title with a 7-3 win.

Alexandria (21-8) won its fifth straight game and maintained a 3-game lead over Mankato in the division, while Rochester (13-15) lost its third straight at home and dropped 7 1/2 games back.
