Honkers drop second straight to Willmar

WILLMAR — The Rochester Honkers had problems with the Willmar Stingers for the second straight night on Friday, this time losing 7-1 in the Northwoods League game.

The Honkers fell 4-2 to the Singers on Thursday when they managed just four hits.

Rochester had trouble making contact again Friday, finishing with six hits. Willmar had eight and also played error-free baseball.

It was the third straight win by the division-leading Stingers, who are 24-11 in the second half of the season and 46-24 overall. The Honkers fell to 16-18, 33-37.

Christian Robinson hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, giving the Honkers their only run. The Stingers responded with a three-run fourth, then a four-run fifth. They were never threatened after that.

Cole Quintanilla suffered his third pitching loss of the season. He lasted four innings, allowing four hits and three runs. Three relievers followed him.

Matt Hardy had the only multi-hit game for the Honkers, going 2-for-4.

The Honkers begin their last series of the year today at Waterloo (6:35 p.m.). Rochester’s season ends Sunday in Waterloo, with a 2:05 p.m. game.
