Honkers split weekend twinbills with St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD — The Rochester Honkers came away from a busier-than-normal weekend in the same position as before, still trailing by a wide margin in the Northwoods League playoff chase.

Rochester and the St. Cloud River Bats split a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday night and Sunday night at Joe Faber Field. The back-to-back twinbills were the result of rainouts in the first half of the season.

Rochester and St. Cloud traded pitching gems Sunday as the Honkers won the first game 7-3, and St. Cloud came back to take the nightcap, 6-0.

The weekend splits kept Rochester's record (12-12) at .500 and kept the Honkers 4 1/2 games behind Alexandria in the North Division second half standings. The second half of the regular season ends Aug. 14.
