Huemann leads Goodhue past W-K

WABASHA — Garrett Huemann had 21 carries for 237 yards and three touchdowns as Goodhue opened its football season with a 47-28 victory over Wabasha-Kellogg in Southern Football Alliance Blue Division game on Friday.

CHATFIELD — The Chatfield football team wasted no time in showing that it's going to be formidable again.

The Gophers, last year's state Class AA champion, blasted Fillmore Central 46-0 in Southern Football Alliance Blue Division action Friday.

Chatfield scored 27 points in the first quarter and rode strong quarterback play all night from first-year starting QB Ben Pierce. The senior threw for 98 yards, completing 6 of 10 passes with a pair of touchdowns en route.

"Pierce stepped up and did a great job," said Chatfield coach Jeff Johnson, who noted that Pierce hadn't played quarterback since junior high. "He threw the ball well and was a field general out there. He didn't make (many) mistakes."

Chatfield got a huge defensive highlight, with Drew Hurley taking an interception back 99 yards for a touchdown. Hurley also finished with 80 yards receiving on four catches.

Alex Bradt had 61 yards rushing for Chatfield and Carter Duxbury 60.

Fillmore Central was led by Dylan Bathke with 67 yards rushing. Tyson Ristau added 21. Quarterback Jordan Miller was 8-for-20 for 95 yards passing.

Huemann, Goodhue romp past W-K

WABASHA — Garrett Huemann had 21 carries for 237 yards and three touchdowns as Goodhue opened its football season with a 47-28 victory over Wabasha-Kellogg in Southern Football Alliance Blue Division game on Friday.

Huemann had scoring runs of 89, 9 and 11 yards to spark Goodhue's 339-yard ground attack.

Jacob Pasch added 100 yards passing for the Wildcats as he completed 8 of 13 passes. He had a 43-yard TD pass to Tyler Schumacher. Pasch also rushed for 44 yards and scored on runs of 13 and 7 yards.

Goodhue finished with 439 yards and force four W-K turnovers.

Ryan Wolfe had 21 carries for 105 yards and one touchdown for Wabasha-Kellogg. He also caught a 29-yard scoring pass from Jack Purvis and completed 2 of 3 passes for 10 yards and one interception.

Purvis was 2-for-6 passing for 76 yards and two touchdowns. His other scoring pass was a 47-yard strike to Jackson Gosse. Purvis added 94 yards rushing on 15 carries.

W-K had 300 yards rushing and 86 passing for 386 yards.

Kingsley, R-P too much for Kingsland

SPRING VALLEY — Cole Kingsley scored four touchdowns and Rushford-Peterson scored four touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 47-0 win over Kingsland the season opener for both teams in football on Friday.

Kingsley had 100 yards rushing on just six carries and he scored touchdowns on half his attempts. He had scoring runs of 2, 28 and 62 yards. The safety also had a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown and caught a pass for 16 yards in the Southern Football Alliance Blue Division contest.

Alex Vix paced R-P with 110 yards rushing, including a 45-yard TD run. Jordan Agrimson had six carries for 46 yards and the Trojans finished with 406 yards rushing and 438 total yards.

R-P quarterback Johnnie Koenen was 3-for-7 passing for 32 yards and a 16-yard TD to Charlie Krambeer.

Kingsland had 36 yards rushing. Knights QB Quinn Larson was 15 for 30 passing for 83 yards and two interceptions. Marcus Tlaehn had five catches for 53 yards.

Warriors solid in season debut

CALEDONIA — Caledonia is looking like the juggernaut we've come to expect.

The Warriors started their season with a 26-0 win Friday over sturdy Southland. Caledonia led 12-0 at halftime, then got 14 more points in the third quarter.

Devan Heaney ran for over 100 yards for Caledonia. Heaney, Austin Bauer, Tanner Gran and Sam Stemper each had rushing touchdowns.

The Warriors got a strong game from quarterback Austin Bauer. One of his best connections was a 40-yard strike to Colton Lampert.

Caledonia coach Brent Schroeder liked what he saw on both sides of the ball.

"Defensively we played well," Schroeder said. "It was a good game for us; Southland is a good team."
