Ice Hawks roll through weekend

The Rochester Ice Hawks have regained their stride.

The Ice Hawks were perfect over the weekend, sweeping a three-game Minnesota Junior Hockey League set.

After beating the Edina Lakers on Friday night at the Rochester Recreation Center, the Ice Hawks hit the road for a pair of games in Wisconsin. The Ice Hawks topped the Wisconsin Mustangs 7-4 on Saturday and topped the Hudson Crusaders 8-4 on Sunday.

The Ice Hawks raced to a 5-0 lead during Saturday’s win in Spooner, Wis.

The Mustangs scored four third-period goals, but it wasn’t enough.

Shaun Walters paced the Ice Hawks with two goals and an assist. Korby Anderson also netted two goals. Trevor Lloyd, Alex Campbell and Zack King also scored goals for the Ice hawks.

Trevor Wight, Justin Phelps and Erik Ordahl had two assists apiece.

Simon Eriksson earned the win in goal. He recorded 36 saves on 40 shots.

The Ice Hawks were out-shot 40-27, including 19-5 in the third period.

In Sunday’s 8-4 win over the Crusaders, the Ice Hawks led 4-1 after two periods and scored four more in the final frame.

Jordan Yaggy notched the win in goal for the Ice Hawks. He stopped 38 of 42 shots.

King had a huge game, scoring three goals and adding an assist. Tyler Groth also had a strong performance, scoring a pair of goals and adding two assists.

Other goal scorers included Campbell, Ordahl and Walters.

Walters had four assists, while George Jackson and Anderson had three apiece. Campbell added two.

The Crusaders held a 42-29 edge in shots on goal.

The Ice Hawks improved to 29-7-0-1 overall. They are now just two points behind the MnJHL-leading Granite City Lumberjacks.

The Ice Hawks return to action at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at home against the St. Mary’s University junior varsity team.
