JM/Lourdes beats Mayo in section play

John Marshall/Lourdes outscored Mayo 11-9 in Section Three tournament play in girls lacrosse on Monday.

Reese DiCecco led JM/Lourdes with four goals and Hanna Larson added three. The Rockets trailed 4-1 early on before rallying to tie the game 5-5 at the half. JM/Lourdes then outscored the Spartans 6-4 in the second half. Ciera Hardyman added a pair of goals for the Rockets.

"I was happy to see the girls maintain their composure and stay in the game, even when (we were) down," Rockets coach Maureen Sanderson said. "We had to fight right to the end of the game against a very strong Mayo team and we had to play our very best to get the win. Katie Ellingson played a pivotal role in the win against Mayo, coming up with key draws and ground balls and protecting the ball during our transition play."

Miranda Halling led Mayo with three goals while Justine Savage and McKenzie Tschann added two each.

"Both teams played with great intensitiy and it was exciting to see this high level of girls lacrosse being performance in Rochester," Mayo coach Gary Tschann said.

The Rockets will now advanced to face Eagan/Rosemount, which defeated Century in another playoff game on Monday. Those two teams will play on Wednesday.

EAGAN-ROSEMOUNT 19, CENTURY 2

Century eliminated

EAGAN — Eagan-Rosemount scored 11 goals in the first half and went on to eliminate Century in Section Three play.

Julie Klampe and Andrea Powell scored goals for Century in the second half. Powell had another goal disallowed in the final minute of play.

"Ali Schwanberg continued her major contributions in the midfield, despite being hampered by illness," Century coach Cassie Rodgers said. "Tasha Jappe and Anna Miller did great plugging up the middle against a couple of the best scorers in the state. Callie Lambert had several heads up plays, including disrupting the pass and coming up with the ball in a scooping scrum."
