FARMINGTON — The John Marshall/Lourdes girls hockey team opened its season on Thursday with a 2-1 setback to Farmington.
"It was kind of what we expected," Rockets coach Bob Montrose said. "It was our first game and we were trying to do some new things."
All the scoring took place in the first period. Kelly Bier opening the scoring on the power play for JM/L 4:31 into the game. Shelby Greer and Blair LeBeck collected asssists.
Haley Doll scored unassisted less than three minutes later to tie the game for Farmington.
Chole Batta then scored on the power play, from Grace Gavin, at 9:18 for what proved to be the winning goal.

JM/L goalie Erin Meyers finshed with 24 saves. The Rockets had 28 shots on goal.
"They were a tough team last year and will be a tough team this year, so it was a good night," Montrose said.
The Rockets host Winona on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Rec Center.
