John Marshall's Bass wins state swim title
John Marshall's Taylor Bass races to a state championship in the 200-yard individual medley at the Class AA girls state swimming and diving championships on Saturday.

MINNEAPOLIS — John Marshall sophomore Taylor Bass won a state championship in the 200-yard individual medley at the Class AA girls state swimming and diving championships on Saturday.

Bass posted a winning time of 2:05.19, almost a half second faster then the runner-up. Bass also placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.97.

Allison Schumacher had a second- and third-place finish for John Marshall in the meet. Schumacher, a junior, was second in the 100 butterfly in 55.98. She was third in the 50 freestyle in 23.68.

Mayo freshman Kallyn Barkey had two top-four individual finishes. She was second in 500 freestyle in 4:55.27 and fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.18.

In the team race, John Marshall and Mayo couldn't have been any closer. JM finished fifth with 141 team points and Mayo was right behind in sixth with 140 points. JM was sixth last season. Edina won the team championship with 316 points.
