Junior college softball: RCTC bashes way to sweep against Anoka-Ramsey

COON RAPIDS — Rochester Community and Technical College hit the ball hard from the start on Friday and swept a junior college softball doubleheader at Anoka-Ramsey.

RCTC won the first Minnesota College Athletic Conference game 8-4 and won the second game 14-2 in five innings.

Tailor Raymond pitched five innings to earn the victory in the opener. She allowed two runs on four hits, with six strikeouts. Laura Chalmers struck out five batters over the final two innings to close the game.

Ashley Bunting led the Yellowjackets at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles. Chalmers had three hits, including a triple, and a three RBIs; Raymond, Paige Gadient and Shelby Davis all had two hits.

The Yellowjackets rolled in Game 2. Chalmers earned the victory, pitching the first three innings and allowing two hits while striking out three batters. Megan Scheid pitched the final two innings.

Lanie McCauley went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Bunting, Gadient and Bailey Proudfoot had two hits each.

RCTC (20-11 overall, 16-2 MCAC) plays at St. Cloud today. The Yellowjackets have already locked up the MCAC title and the No. 1 seed in the regional. They'll play host to the regional tournament, beginning Thursday at RCTC.
