BLAINE — The Rochester Ice Hawks were overwhelmed in Friday's NA3HL Showcase matchup with the Metro Jets (Fraser, Mich.).
The Jets won 8-1 after outshooting Rochester 45-14 at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine on Day 2 of the Showcase. The loss came on the heels of a well-played game by the Ice Hawks on Thursday, when they defeated St. Louis 4-3 in their Showcase opener.
On Friday, the Jets (19-3-2) led 2-0 after one period and 6-0 after two.
Justyn Sweet scored the Ice Hawks' (6-15-0) lone goal, in the third period, with assists from Trey McMillen and Nick Paulson. Kyle Plantz made 37 saves in the loss.
Jacob Drinkard led the East Division-leading Jets with two goals and two assists.

Rochester closes play in the Showcase today against the Granite City Lumberjacks (Sauk Centre) at 4 p.m. The Ice Hawks are then off until they play host to the North Iowa Bulls at 7:05 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the Rochester Recreation Center.
