Junior hockey: Minot's second-period surge hurts Bruins

AUSTIN — The Austin Bruins couldn't stop the Minot Minotauros in the second period Friday and it proved costly.

The Tauros scored five second-period goals en route to a 7-3 North American Hockey League victory against the Bruins, a Central Division rival, at Riverside Arena.

Minot led 2-0 after one period, then scored four times in the first 9:01 of the second for a 6-0 lead.

Jack Murphy and Michael Talbot scored two goals apiece for Minot, while Zack Bross, Tyler Jeanson and Alex Adams had one goal each.

Rochester Mayo grad and Austin forward Logan Haskins spoiled Minot's shutout bid with a goal at the 10:10 mark of the second. Justin Misiak and Travis Kothenbeutel also scored for the Bruins. Misiak also had one assist and Jon Richards had two for the Bruins.

Austin outshot Minot 35-26, but Tauros goalie Lucas Murray made 32 saves in the win.

The Bruins and the Tauros play again tonight at Riverside Arena at 7:05 p.m.
