A second half surge by the Lyle/Austin Pacelli boys basketball team Thursday night pushed its winning streak to four straight games.
The first half of this Southeast Conference game was a struggle for the Lyle/Pacelli Athletics. The home team was hampered by foul trouble and only led by seven points at halftime of the conference game at the Pacelli Gym.
"We came out a bit overconfident and L-O outworked us in the first half," L/P coach Casey Anderson said. "It's too bad it took us a whole half to scrap back. In the second half, we started running our offensive sets and playing defense."
David Diang and Jordan Hart had a number of steals in the second half as the Athletics used their defense to pull away for a 59-31 win. Diang finished with a game-high 19 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds. Hart also scored in double figures with 10 points on the night.
"We didn't play real well in the first half and should've had less turnovers," Diang said. "The shots weren't falling in the first half, so we got the defense going and scored in transition. We've won a few games in a row and now, I feel like we're playing better as a team."
