Mayo shut out by SPU

ST. PAUL — Rochester Mayo played well, including a 23-save performance by goalie Rachel Schmitz, but the Spartans dropped a non-conference girls hockey game against the St. Paul United on Tuesday.

St. Paul scored once in the first and second, then sealed the victory with two third-period goals. SPU outshot Mayo 27-19.

"Our girls played a strong game," Mayo coach Jeff Bolin said. "We took a little time to get started, but competed every step of the way. I think we will get better as we go. For now there are a few points to drive home and this group will respond to whatever comes their way."
