The Rochster's A's got an excellent pitching performance from Erik Thorvilson and won the first of two First District American Legion baseball games against Austin on Tuesday night.
Thorvilson guided the A's to a 3-2 win in Game 1. Austin won the nightap 7-3.
"Thorvilson threw excellent and was able to pitch out of a few tight spots," A's coach Jordan Kangas said. "He threw strikes and the defense keyed off of that."
The A's scored three runs in the first inning in Game 1. Nick Smith and Ryan Goll each finished the game going 2-for-3 from the plate. Goll had a pair of doubles.
The A's struggled from the start in the second game, giving up five runs in the first inning. Four were earned. All of that came off of just one hit.

A's pitchers walked a total of seven batters.
"We walked too many hitters to give our selves a chance to win," Kangas said.
The A's hit the ball well in the loss. Kangas noted that two baserunning errors were costly, though.
Nick Pearson was 2-for-3 with a double.
The A's are 6-4 in the First District and 10-7 overall.
