LA CROSSE — The Rochester Patriots lost a pair of games and bowed out of an American Legion baseball tournament Saturday at La Crosse.
La Crosse scored six runs in the fifth inning and beat the Patriots 10-3 in the first game. The Patriots played the second game closer, before falling 5-4 to Oconomowoc, Wis.
The Patriots were out-hit 9-7 by La Crosse and both teams committed three errors. Grant Heller went 2-for-3 to lead Rochester's offense, and Curran Hansen took the loss on the mound.
"We played well for a few innings and got a good start from Brady Boysen," said Patriots head coach Terry Heiderscheit. "La Crosse has some good hitters and they got after it late in the game."
The Patriots out-hit Oconomowoc 11-8, with Jake Halverson going 3-for-4 and Alex Welder 2-for-4. Jackson Miller surrendered three runs in the first inning and was the losing pitcher.

"Jackson had a tough first inning then settled in and threw well," Heiderscheit said.
"We need to play better and get some timely hits," he added. "It's tough to win leaving runners on base as often as we do."
