Rochester Patriots first baseman Sam Broman makes a big stretch and gets the out on Collin Ripley of the Kasson Canes Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The top seeded Rochester Patriots utilized good pitching to advance from the first round of the First District Division I tournament on Tuesday.

Zach Schweiters allowed just one earned run over seven innings and led the Patriots to a 6-3 win over No. 8 seed Kasson at John Adams Alumni Field.

"Zach pitched well," said Patriots coach Terry Heiderscheit. "We made a couple of mistakes defensively in one inning but otherwise played pretty sharp. We had some timely hits to knock some runs in."

Jack Kall went 4-for-4 to lead the Patriots' 14-hit attack on offense, and Schweiters helped his own cause going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

"This Kasson team was very capable of coming in here and winning tonight," Heiderscheit added. "They have a nice group of players; our kids played pretty sharp all night long."
