Local Sports Notebook: Royals, RCTC get 'great feeling of success' putting on clinic

The Rochester Royals amateur baseball team and Rochester Community and Technical College team are again combining to hold a three-day clinic in December.

The clinic is for players ranging from third grade to high school seniors and will be held at the bubble at Rochester Regional Stadium.

The clinic is being held Dec. 6, 13 and 29. There are three skill levels: Rookie, for grades 3-5 and the clinic will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each session; Skill, for grades 6-8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each session; and High School, for grades 9-12 from 1-3 p.m. each session. The cost is $90 for the Rookie clinic and $100 for both Skill and High School.

Among the coaches and players who will be instructing at the camp will be Buzz Hannahan, a current Royals player and former nine-year minor-league player; Royals player/coaches Brian Ness, Drew Blockand Josh Conley; Royals player and former seven-year, minor-league player Matt Meyer; RCTC head coach Steve Huckeand RCTC pitching coach Greg Polt.

This marks the second straight year for the clinic.

"Last year we got some great feedback," Ness said. "Partnering with RCTC baseball gives us both the opportunity to share all the talent these two ball clubs have with the young upcoming youth. The knowledge and experience of the game these two ball clubs have is immeasurable, and to share that knowledge to yelp a youngster succeed is also a great feeling of success."

Rochester native Mark Stuartwill be playing against the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul in NHL play on Friday. The two Central Division rivals will play at 3 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.

Stuart, 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, is a veteran defenseman for the Winnipeg Jets. He has appeared in all 21 Winnipeg games this season and has one goal and one assist. He has 20 penalty minutes and a zero plus-minus rating.

The 31-year-old Stuart is in his 12th NHL season and the Jets are his third team. He has appeared in 588 career games and has 24 goals and 64 assists.

Jenna Milligan, a senior at John Marshall High School, has verbally committed to attend and play women's soccer for Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. She was also recruited by schools for basketball and track.

Milligan has been a starting midfielder for the John Marshall girls soccer team the past five seasons. She earned Big Nine All-Conference honors the past three seasons. She was also a starting midfielder for the Woodbury Samba Premier team in club soccer.

Milligan is an honor student who plans to pursue a degree in creative writing at Knox.

Tom Sennehas been named the new baseball coach at Mayo High School. Senne is taking over for Joe Serratore, who coached Mayo the past couple of seasons.

Senne has also been an American Legion coach for the Rochester Redhawks, a summer team made up of Mayo players.

Senne is the older brother of Aaron Senne, a former Division I baseball player at Missouri who had a brief career in the minor leagues before injuries derailed things.

Rochester's Ruth Lindbergrecently finished her freshman season for the Concordia University, St. Paul women's cross country team. She was consistently among the top three finishers for Concordia.

Lindberg ran high school cross country for the Rochester Area Home School Jaguars. She has become the first Jaguar female to run college cross country.

Lake City senior Emily Schimbenohad signed a letter of intent to play golf at South Dakota School of Mines. Schimbeno finished 15th in last year's state Class AA tournament with a two-day score of 161.
