The Rochester Royals scored six runs in the first two innings and went on to defeat the Red Wing Aces 9-4 in amateur baseball on Wednesday night at Mayo Field.
The Royals scored twice in the first inning and added four more in the bottom of the second to jump out to a 6-1 lead.
Alex Prindle, Michael Michalak and Alex Welder — the No. 2, 3 and 4 hitters in the lineup — all drove in two runs for the Royals. Leadoff hitter Alex Holets went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while No. 9 hitter Jordan Stokes was 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. Welder, Holets and Nick Pearson all hit doubles and all nine hitters in the order had at least one hit for the Royals.
Tyler Rolland pitched the first five innings for the win and he allowed two earned runs on four hits. Jake Halverson followed with three innings and he allowed a pair of runs and Mitch Brown finished with a scoreless ninth.
The Royals finished with 12 hits and the Aces had six. Teddy Tauer drove in a pair of runs for Red Wing. The Royals are scheduled to host the Randolph Railcats at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mayo Field.
