The Thunder Bay Border Cats came into Tuesday's game against the Rochester Honkers as the only winless team in the Northwoods League.

That unfortunate distinction no longer applies.

The Border Cats got a strong performance from starting pitcher Alex Defoe, who gave up just one run on five hits over seven innings as Thunder Bay claimed a 5-1 victory.

Aaron Simmons was the only Honkers player with more than one hit, and he also had the Honkers' only RBI on a run-scoring single in the sixth inning.

Dwayne Marshall got the start for the Honkers and gave up two runs in three innings. Landon Anderson then made his first appearance for the Honkers, and he also yielded two runs in three innings.

The Honkers (5-3) face the Border Cats (1-7) again on Wednesday.
