MASON CITY, Iowa -- The Rochester Grizzlies' brief two-game winning streak came to a screeching halt Friday night at North Iowa Arena with an 8-2 loss to former North American 3 Hockey League West Division rival North Iowa.
Rochester, which moved to the NA3HL Central Division this year, took a 2-1 lead into the second period, but the game got away from the Grizzlies quickly.
North Iowa's Nico Aguilera scored 4:27 into the second period to tie the score, then Austin McNeil scored 13 seconds later for a 3-2 Bulls lead.
The Bulls' Mason Enright made it 4-2 at the 8:52 mark of the second, and his teammate, Nick Bowlin, scored on the next shift, nine second later, to make it 5-2.
North Iowa tacked on three more in the third period, all against Grizzlies goalie Shane Soderwall, who played all 60 minutes and stopped 21 shots.
Peyton Hart and Noel Parker scored for Rochester (11-4-0), which sits in second place in the Central, three points back of division-leading St. Louis.
The loss was the most lopsided setback of the season for the Grizzlies, and their worst loss since a 7-1 defeat against Coulee Region in the final game of the regular season last year.
The Grizzlies have not lost back-to-back games this season; they'll attempt to keep that streak alive tonight at 7 p.m. against the Alexandria Blizzard at the Rochester Rec Center. Rochester is seeking its first-ever win against Alexandria after going winless against the Blizzard in six meetings last season.
