WATERLOO, Iowa — Most of the Rochester Honkers’ seven wins this season have shared a common theme — great performances by the bullpen.

Sunday’s 6-1 win over Waterloo was no exception.

After starting pitcher Ryan Middendorf (2-0, 1.50 ERA) tossed six sparkling innings, yielding one run on six hits and no walks, he gave way to Landon Anderson, who tossed two scoreless innings. Then Casey Nimmo came on in the ninth and slammed the door.

While the pitchers were piling up zeroes and nine strikeouts — and getting help from an error-free defensive effort — the Honkers’ offense had a solid day at the plate and took full advantage of four Waterloo errors to score five unearned runs.

Rochester shortstop Evan Berkey had his biggest game of the season with two singles, a double and two RBIs. The sophomore from Cal State Bakersfield is hitting .286 and has struck out just five times in 42 at-bats.

Tristan Peterson continues to be a big threat at the plate for the Honkers. While the slugger from New Mexico State is still looking for his first home run of the season, he picked up two more RBIs on Sunday with a sacrifice fly and a two-out single.

He has seven extra-base hits and seven RBIs in just nine games this summer.

Mitchell Allen had two hits in the DH spot, and Craig Shepherd, a junior from Evansville, had a single and a double and scored twice.

He is hitting .361 with 13 hits in nine games.

The Honkers host the Bucks on Monday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35.
