Med City FC lost a crucial contest on Saturday night, dropping a 2-0 decision at Mayo High School in National Premier Soccer League action.

The loss — Med City’s first this season — puts the Mayhem in a difficult spot as they try to advance to the NPSL playoffs for the first time. They need to beat North Conference leader Minneapolis City SC on Friday night in Minneapolis to get in.

Med City FC has 7 wins, three ties and one loss. Minneapolis City SC is 8-1-1. Duluth FC is in second place in the North Conference at 7-2-1.

It’s the third straight year the Mayhem have been in this position, needing a regular season-ending win to advance to the playoffs. Med City FC came up short its first two seasons.

Med City FC General Manager Frank Spaeth said Saturday’s loss could easily have gone the other way.

“We missed a hots of good chances (to score),” he said.
