Rochester Community and Technical College rolled to a big lead at the half and held on to defeat the Bethany Lutheran junior varsity 70-61 in men's basketball on Tuesday.
The Yellowjackets led 37-18 at the half.
Bethel came back in a flurry the second half and cut the lead to five before RCTC made a basket and free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Freshman Antonio Maddox of Richfield led RCTC with 14 points and four steals and he was 8-for-10 at the line.
Mankato's Kong Kong, who was named the MCAC Player of the Week last week, had 12 points, eight rebounds and blocked five shots for RCTC. Karmoga Lero had seven of his 11 points in the first half and he added four rebounds. Guard Mickey Jah had eight points, six rebounds and two steals.
RCTC shot 47 percent from the field, which included just 3-for-18 from 3-point range and was 11-for-15 from the line. RCTC held a 46-41 edge on the boards.
Bethany shot 32 percent from the field and made 6 of 29 3-point shots and was 9-for-15 from the line.
The Yellowjackets (4-1) play a pair of home games this weekend. They face Vermilion at 7 p.m. on Friday and Mesabi Range at 1 p.m. Saturday.
