Rochester Community and Technical College pulled away late to post a 74-66 win over Madison Tech in junior college men's basketball on Wednesday.
The game was tied when Devin Melzer and Ray Adams hit baskets in the final four minutes to give the Yellowjackets the lead for good. RCTC then sealed the win with free throws down the stretch.
Freshman Jashawn Campbell went 7-for-7 at the line for RCTC and he also dished out five assists.
Kong Kong sparked the Yellowjackets with 18 points, a whopping 16 rebounds and three blocked shots. Mickey Jah had 11 points and four assists while Karmoga Lero and Devin Melzer each scored 10 points. Jerome Cunningham had nine rebounds and Melzer chipped in with five.
RCTC, which led 34-32 at the half, overcome 29 turnovers by dominating the boards 54-29. The Yellowjackets shot 46 percent from the floor and made 3 of 18 3-point shots and 17 of 24 free throws while dishing out 17 assists.
Madison shot 38 percent from the field, was 9-for-34 from 3-point range and 9-for-16 from the line. It had 22 turnovers.
The Yellowjackets (3-1) will host the Bethany Lutheran junior varsity at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
