Rochester Community and Technical College played much more to coach Steve Hucke’s liking Saturday as it worked to a 60-53 women’s basketball win over Itasca Community College.

RCTC, which moved to 2-4 overall, bounced back after trailing 26-22 at halftime. It proceeded to outscore Itasca 17-8 in the third quarter and 21-19 in the fourth.

Grace Riley paced RCTC with 15 points. She hit 5 of 10 shots, including 2-of-5 from 3-point distance. The Rochester Mayo graduate also grabbed eight rebounds. Alyssa Whitson had 10 points and six rebounds, and Abby Bauer had seven rebounds and three steals.

“We finally played more as a group,” Hucke said. “Most of the time we executed our plays and our defensive rotations were better. But we still have a learning curve with quite a few of our players freshmen.”

RCTC plays at Hibbing Community College on Friday.
