ROCHESTER — The Austin High girls basketball team played at Rochester Century on Friday night and lost 77-46 in the Big Nine Conference game.
Despite a decent offensive performance in the first half, the visiting Austin Packers couldn't keep pace with the Century Panthers. Century led by 14 points at halftime and expanded on that in the second half.
The Panthers shot over 50-percent from the field at 31-for-51 on the night. They also made a pair of 3-pointers in the conference win.
In contrast, the Packers were under 30-percent shooting on the night at 15-for-52 from the field. Meredith Molhusen had the only trey in the road loss.
"We did a decent job on offense in the first half and scored 26 points, but didn't show up to play defense," Austin coach Gary Peterson said. "We allowed them to shoot 60-percent from the field. The game was pretty much over midway through the second half."

With the loss, the Packers fell to a 1-10 record in the Big Nine. The Austin girls have now lost nine straight games.
"We started out playing man-to-man defense, but they would come down and score at will against the individual matchups," Peterson said. "Then, we switched to a zone and they ran it up even more. We had 21 turnovers and that helped them in the transition game, but we didn't play with much intensity on defense."
Robin Arjes was the only player to score in double figures for the Packers as she netted 10 points. Jenna Svoboda added nine points and three rebounds.
Mayo had a pair of players in double figures with Mallory Cochran leading the way at 14 points. The Panthers had a total of 13 players score.
Austin (2-15 overall) travels to Winona next Friday night.
