Rochester Lourdes had little trouble in its playoff opener at the top-seeded Eagles routed No. 8 Cannon Falls 72-30 on Friday in the Section 1AA West quarterfinals in girls basketball.
The Eagles roared out to a 17-0 lead to open the game and were never headed. Both teams were limited in the contest. Jordan Montgomery of Cannon Falls was ill and not at full strength. Lourdes starting guard Stephanie Helt missed the game because she was at her great grandmother's funeral.
"(Hanna) Anderson and (Olivia) Muyres stepped in at the point and did a good job," Lourdes coach Myron Glass said.
Center Laura Melquist led Lourdes with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Shelby Hanssen had 13 points and eight rebounds and Anderson had 10 points.
