Lourdes sharp in beating Z-M

Rochester Lourdes clicked on offense and romped to a 63-33 Hiawatha Valley League boys basketball victory against Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Tuesday at Lourdes.

Lourdes hopped to a 16-0 lead to begin the game.

"We shot it well and were much more efficient on offense," Eagles coach Jim Daly said.

Center James Ustby led Lourdes with 19 points. Other than that, it was balanced for the Eagles (11-4 HVL, 16-7 overall). Zach Hillman had nine points and Noah Hillman and Daniel Burriss had eight each.

Packers' defense does in Century

Austin's pressure defense was too much for Century and it led to a 65-58 Big Nine Conference win for the Packers at Century on Tuesday.

Century trailed by nine at halftime, but opened the second half on an 18-5 scoring run to take the lead.

Sam Schwanberg was a huge part of that, as the Panthers senior finished with 28 points on 10-for-16 shooting. He nailed four 3-pointers.

But Austin countered with a 10-0 scoring run of its own and Century couldn't close the gap again. Austin nailed a pack of free throws (13-for-18 for the game) to close things out.

Century coach Joe Ohm saw a shaky beginning to the game by his team as being the difference.

"Austin's defensive pressure gave us fits in the first eight minutes of the game; we had a slow start taking care of the ball," Ohm said.
